Welcome to the HOMEGROWN LOCAL FOOD COOPERATIVE Farmer’s Market.

It’s officially summer, and most of our local vegetable farms are finished with production for the next three months.
During this time we will regionally source more organic vegetables from Georgia, South and North Carolina to keep a healthy mix of whole foods available.
Each product entry indicates the farm or kitchen of origin. Any non-local items will be labeled as such.
Here at the Homegrown Co-op you are purchasing food direct from our farm and producer members.
Learn more about our local farms and artisan producers in the Our Growers section.

Tomme CheeseGrower: Winter Park Dairy
Price: $9.00 ( 1/2 Pound Wedge )Available (Estimated): 14
Tomme is a type of hard rind moldy cheese originally produced in the French Alps and in Switzerland. David Greene's Tomme has qualities, tastes and textures of Parmesan, Ramona and provolone cheeses.
Handcrafted and fully aged for 60 days. It is the freshest raw milk product that can legally be purchased. Produced in small wheels At Winter Park Dairy, Fresh From Florida means just that Fresh. Raw milk from Jersey cows makes the best cheese. The milk is yellow, not white, due to the extremely high butterfat content. Because our cheese is hand-made, there will be variations in color, flavor and texture from one batch to another or even between wheels from the same batch. These variations serve to emphasize the unique nature of the product, but have no effect on the quality. The cheese is cut by hand and package sizes will vary slightly from one package to another. The cheese is made in a traditional hot water heated vat imported from Holland. The temperature is slowly increased from 45 to 90 degrees F. No Hotter. Gently agitated by hand, the fresh raw milk undergoes the ages old tradition of becoming cheese. Really fresh and natural cheese from Farm to Table.

AmaranthGrower: Homegrown Co-op
Price: $2.80 ( one pound )Available (Exact): 24
Nutritional InfoCertified Organic. Amaranth can be cooked as a cereal, ground into flour, popped like popcorn, sprouted, or toasted. The seeds can be cooked with other whole grains, added to stir-fry or to soups and stews as a nutrient dense thickening agent.
Amaranth flour is used in making pastas and baked goods. It must be mixed with other flours for baking yeast breads, as it contains no gluten. One part amaranth flour to 3-4 parts wheat or other grain flours may be used. In the preparation of flatbreads, pancakes and pastas, 100% amaranth flour can be used. Sprouting the seeds will increase the level of some of the nutrients and the sprouts can be used on sandwiches and in salads, or just to munch on.
To cook amaranth boil 1 cup seeds in 2-1/2 cups liquid such as water or half water and half stock or apple juice until seeds are tender, about 18 to 20 minutes. Adding some fresh herbs or gingerroot to the cooking liquid can add interesting flavors or mix with beans for a main dish. For a breakfast cereal increase the cooking liquid to 3 cups and sweeten with Stevia, honey or brown rice syrup and add raisins, dried fruit, allspice and some nuts.
Amaranth has a "sticky" texture that contrasts with the fluffier texture of most grains and care should be taken not to overcook it as it can become "gummy." Amaranth flavor is mild, sweet, nutty, and malt like, with a variance in flavor according to the variety being used.
Amaranth keeps best if stored in a tightly sealed container, such as a glass jar, in the refrigerator. This will protect the fatty acids it contains from becoming rancid. The seeds should be used within 3 to 6 months.
