1989: Deland Bakery began as a small cafe-bakery run by Don Pablo and his wife. One of his clients gave him a small mill that could be used to prepare the millet bread, and the result was met with so much enthusiasm that this marked the beginning of products he promoted and distributed to area health food stores.
Then don Pablo decided to sell the business to Alfredo Avila who embraced the challenges so much that he learned to make the recipes within two weeks!
2000: Five crew members and growth of 300% propelled the addition of both NEW equipment and ADDITIONAL team member.
2001: Deland Bakery started business with Whole Foods Market, a great success!
Prompted by growth, we relocated from a space of 1,600 sq. ft. to one of 13,500 sq. ft., and later to a 42,000 sq. ft. building, our current location.
This location provides jobs to students of Stetson University who need this resource not only for financial reasons but also to aid in their professional development. We are located just a few minutes from the university and downtown, 45 minutes from Orlando, and 90 minutes from Jacksonville.
We have invested in new equipment, trained new personnel, added new office equipment, and adopted an organizational design that fits the needs of our operation.
2009: DeLand Bakery received the Certificate of Organic Operation, Certified Organic to the USDA National Organic Program by the INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION SERVICES, INC. (ICS, INC). This achievement enhances a long list of accomplishments earned and treasured over time.
We have four employees that have received The Food Safety Manager Certification.
The growth of the bakery has not stopped and, in fact, demand continues to grow, the better-for-you, all natural, organic and gluten free markets are growing to 33% and the trends are to keep continuously growing for the next 10 years
